- Push the wires all the way in until you can see the copper ends at the front of the connector.
- Squeeze the crimper handle firmly once. The tool pushes the gold pins down into the copper wires and locks the strain-relief tab in place.
That's it. It takes about two minutes once you've done it a few times. And if you test the cable and it doesn't work, 90% of the time the issue is that the wires weren't pushed in far enough before crimping. Cut it off and try again.
I want to be honest about the limits here. I'm not a certified low-voltage cabling specialist, so I won't claim that on-site crimping is appropriate for permanent installations inside walls or under floors. For that, you should hire a licensed contractor. But for temporary runs, event setups, and emergency repairs? Knowing how to use a crimper has saved me more times than I can count.
I'd rather spend ten minutes teaching a business owner how to crimp a cable than watch them wait three days for a replacement part that costs four dollars.
Addressing the Obvious Pushback
Whenever I give this advice, someone inevitably says: "Why not just buy a second smartphone, use it as a hotspot, and call it a day?" Fair question. A spare smartphone does cover some of the same roles as a Nokia 2720 Flip and a 5G backup phone.

I've tested this in real conditions, not just in theory.
I also get that Nokia isn't the flashiest brand on the market. The company doesn't make phones with folding screens or cameras that zoom to the moon. What Nokia does—and has done since the Asha days—is build equipment that refuses to quit when you need it most. In my line of work, that's worth more than a spec sheet full of impressive numbers.

So no, I don't apologize for my toolkit anymore. When a business is staring at a missed deadline, they don't ask whether my gear is fashionable. They ask whether it works.
My opinion after 200+ emergency network jobs: buy equipment you understand, not equipment you're afraid to touch. Keep a Nokia 2720 Flip for the calls that can't drop. Keep a 5G Nokia phone for the internet that can't wait. Keep a router you've configured yourself. And learn how to use a crimper so a short cable never stops you again.
