Nokia Phones, Wrist Blood Pressure Monitors, and Verizon Flip Phones: A Purchaser’s Quick Answers

Quick answers: Most Nokia-branded phones today are made by HMD Global and its manufacturing partners in Vietnam, China, India, and some European models in Hungary. The Nokia 3360 released in 2001. The Nokia N95 phone launched in 2007; an N95 respirator is a NIOSH-approved mask, not a phone. A wrist blood pressure monitor can work, but an upper-arm cuff is the safer default for a first-aid room. To turn on most Verizon flip phones, press and hold the red End/Power key for 2-3 seconds. Where are Nokia phones made?

As of January 2025, most Nokia phones are manufactured by HMD's partners in Vietnam, China, and India. Some European-market models have been assembled in Hungary. Older Nokia phones were made in Finland, Hungary, China, India, and other countries depending on the model and year.

When I first started managing phone orders, I assumed every Nokia phone was built in Finland. That assumption lasted until a shipment of Nokia 105s arrived with 'Made in Vietnam' on the label. Not a problem. Just a reminder to check the device label or the FCC ID if the exact origin matters for your contract.

For enterprise network gear, Nokia's manufacturing footprint is different. That's not the same as consumer phones. If you're buying Nokia network infrastructure, ask your account rep for the specific country of origin. Don't assume it matches the phone side.

For our field techs, I care less about the flag on the label and more about whether the phone supports VoLTE and our MDM. A Nokia phone made in Vietnam is fine if it meets the carrier's requirements. Nokia 3360 release date

The Nokia 3360 was released in 2001. It was a North American TDMA/AMPS phone, a sturdy bar phone that many field workers carried. If you're looking at one on eBay or in a drawer, that's the timeline. It is not a current device, and it won't work on Verizon's current LTE/5G network without VoLTE support. I'm not 100% sure about every regional variant, but 2001 is the standard release year cited for the 3360.

If you're trying to activate a Nokia 3360 today, don't. It's a 2G/TDMA era device. Verizon shut down its 3G network in 2022, and 2G is long gone. It's a collector's item, not a work phone.

Nokia N95: phone or respirator?

This one trips people up. The Nokia N95 is a smartphone. It was announced in September 2006 and released in March 2007. It ran Symbian, had a 5-megapixel camera, and was one of the first phones with built-in GPS. If you're ordering for a museum or a retro tech display, that's your device.

An N95 respirator is something else entirely. It's a NIOSH-approved particulate respirator that filters at least 95% of airborne particles. NIOSH is the authority there, not Nokia. If your first-aid room needs N95 masks, check the NIOSH approval number on the packaging. If someone asks for N95 in a telecom order, clarify which one they mean. I learned that the hard way when a vendor sent a box of masks instead of a phone accessory.

I once ordered 'N95 accessories' for a retro phone project. The vendor sent N95 mask lanyards. We both said N95 and meant different things. Now I write the full model name and send a photo.

Wrist blood pressure monitor: what I check before ordering

A wrist blood pressure monitor is convenient. It's also easier to misuse. The FDA has cleared many home blood pressure devices, but the American Heart Association generally recommends validated upper-arm cuffs for clinical accuracy. Wrist monitors can be accurate if the user keeps the wrist at heart level, stays still, and follows the instructions. In a busy office first-aid room, that's a big if.

In my opinion, an upper-arm monitor is the safer default for a shared first-aid room. If you must buy a wrist blood pressure monitor, look for FDA clearance, a validated device list, and a cuff that fits the users. I don't have hard data on how often wrist readings are wrong in office settings, but based on our own staff feedback, the upper-arm model gets fewer repeat checks. That's anecdotal, not a clinical study.

If you're buying for a clinic, follow clinical guidelines. If you're buying for a general office first-aid room, an upper-arm monitor is easier to use correctly. That's my call.

How to turn on a Verizon flip phone

Most Verizon flip phones, including Nokia models, turn on by pressing and holding the red End/Power key for 2-3 seconds. It's usually the bottom-right key. If the screen stays black, don't panic. Charge it with the original charger for at least 30 minutes. Then try again.

If it still won't turn on, check three things:

  1. The battery is seated correctly. Remove the back cover and reinsert it.
  2. The charger and cable actually work. Try a different outlet or cable.
  3. The phone is activated on Verizon's network. A new or replacement SIM may need activation.
